A man was thrown off a flight to Iceland after refusing to wear a face mask.
Police officers were called to the Easyjet flight at Manchester Airport after they received reports of four males fighting – one of them was John Evans, aged 29.
Whilst the three others appeared to calm down, Evans, of Conwy, continued being abusive to staff and refused to wear his face mask.
Despite being warned by the cabin crew numerous times, Evan continued to refuse, Manchester Magistrates Court heard.
As the officers arrived, staff pointed Evans out to them and despite asking him to leave the flight, he rejected their orders.
The court heard that it was ‘clear’ that Evans was drunk, in that his eyes were glazed over, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet.
As a last resort, officers went to remove him physically from the plane, but he began swearing, spitting and making remarks such as: “I will knock you out, the lot of you.”
Pleading guilty to entering an aircraft when drunk, Evans was handed a £230 fine and ordered to pay £119 court costs.
Prosecuting Parveen Ahktar said the incident took place on September 24 this year at 6.20am when officers were requested to attend an Easyjet flight due to reports of four males fighting.
John Evans was sentenced at Manchester Magistrates Court
Evans, of Penrhos Avenue, was fined £230, and ordered to pay £85 court costs and £34 victim surcharge.
