A key section of the M25 motorway between Junctions 10 and 11 will be closed this weekend as part of a £317 million improvement project. The closure is set to begin at 9:00 PM on Friday and will last until 6:00 AM on Monday, affecting thousands of commuters and holiday travellers.
The closure coincides with an England World Cup qualifier at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, which is expected to draw over 80,000 fans. Travellers heading to Heathrow and Gatwick airports are also advised to plan for potential delays, as detours and diversions are likely to cause heavy congestion on alternative routes.
National Highways has advised drivers to use alternative routes via the M3, A3, and local roads, warning that significant delays are expected, particularly on Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening. Public transport services, including trains and coaches, may also see increased demand as travellers seek alternative transport options.
London transport officials have urged passengers to allow extra travel time, particularly those with early morning flights. Airlines operating out of Heathrow and Gatwick have advised travellers to check their departure times and consider arriving at the airport well in advance.
